CASE STUDIES (PAGE UNDER CONSTRUCTION...) The following are examples of the solutions I have provided my clients. I have changed the names and some other identifiable aspects of the stories, although it is likely my clients will recognize their story.
The Ghost payroll... this story is quite fascinating... it starts with an accountant coming in early one morning before any other staff and leaving his lap-top, keys and a note of resignation, and ends with him in sentenced to two years' prison with a non-parole period of 18 months. (Reported in The Age and Herald Sun 02/10/2001) It will take some writing, but I'm working on it, so come back soon!
Where are my profits going? A classic story, easily solved with some accounting analysis... I'm writing, trying to make it concise...
Recovering from fraud And the chaos which made it possible, and the resulting shortage of cash.
"I don't think I need you anymore" On this occasion my client did not agree with my claim that I was offering a solution. The principal was excited by a deal he was putting together. I was doubtful, so did the figures and reported to him that, in fact he would loose money on the deal. At his suggestion I finished up at the end of the day. I kept in touch with the accounts person though. She rang a few months later to say the administrators had come in. I was disappointed the owner didn't value my analysis, but I expect he was more disappointed by the eventual closing of his business.
